West Coast Tour - Los Angeles 12.7.24

12.7.24 Los Angeles, California

I woke up feeling cold this morning.
Right now, I'm watching a shaggy white dog, stare at its owner from across the room.
He/She was told to "stay", and they sure did.
I just learned her name: Jenny.
She got a treat for her success. It's a cold morning here in LA. Now my dad's calling.
One second.
It's funny because I don't talk to my family daily, so he had no idea I was on tour, let alone in LA.
Let me take a step back. I'm at Café Nido, a coffee shop and bookstore (kinda). I think I'm in Silverlake? (I was.) We are staying with the guy who put on the fest we played last night. (I was on tour with my band.) This coffee shop is only a 12-minute walk from his house. Let me paint you a picture of my view. I'm sitting in a room off of the main space, and it's enclosed in windows. There are gorgeous glossy green tiles covering the floor, and ahead of me are vines overtaking the patio, but there is a gap letting in light, all with a perfect view of a hill of trees. I'm sipping on an iced latte with caramel and oat milk, sitting on a velvet green couch.
I think Jenny and her owner just left.
I wonder what they will do with their day.
Not sure what my day will look like, but this is a perfect start. I am not usually keen on sitting outside if it's cold, but luckily I layered up. Whoever is playing music here is killing it. They've played Corneilia Murr, MJ Lenderman and Jessica Pratt, to name a few. Is it weird that I want to tell the café workers that I like what they're playing? I feel like I'm in search of company, but I don't want to burden others just to satisfy my loneliness. I spoke to the woman sitting next to me. Randomly enough, her roommate is from New Braunfels. It's nice to chat sometimes, otherwise I wouldn't find those small moments of company, even if they feel like they are ending before they've started.
It might be time to find food. I know it's time when coffee starts making me feel weird.
